Castillo de San Marcos - St. Augustine Fort Original Watercolor

Some of my earliest memories are tied to the Castillo de San Marcos. As a child, our family gathered at "the Fort" each Fourth of July to celebrate beneath its ancient walls. Years later, I returned with my own sons to continue that tradition, watching fireworks illuminate the night sky over one of America's most enduring landmarks.

Long before those celebrations, however, the Castillo witnessed a different kind of fire. Built of resilient coquina stone, it withstood attacks, protected the city, and quietly stood its ground through centuries of history. That steadfast endurance is what has always spoken to me. Within its weathered walls, I find a quiet strength that refuses to yield.

It was an honor to paint this remarkable fortress in watercolor. My hope is that this piece serves as a reminder that true strength is often found not in resisting every storm, but in enduring them with grace.
